How has Beeley & Co effectively incorporated the Lexcel framework into its business?
“With her experience of how many law firms were run Nancy Beeley was determined to make her firm different, based on modern management practices, good use of IT and a basic focus on providing excellent standards of client care, Nancy used Lexcel as a basis to develop management structures and procedures, recognising that the Lexcel framework made sound business sense and with the framework aimed at delivering excellent standards of client care. Having been established along Lexcel principles, the firm quickly achieved Lexcel and Investors in People accreditations.
Since achieving Lexcel accreditation the firm has grown, moving into new areas of work, in the confidence that the risk management and supervision procedures in place ensure that any new areas of work are effectively managed and the firm’s high client care standards are maintained.
Learning and development is seen as an investment in the firm and not a cost, and the firm has been imaginative and innovative in developing staff expertise, and has indeed become a ‘learning organisation’.
Based on using forward thinking management strategies and techniques, always aiming to get the best from people, the firm is managed in an open and collaborative style and the Nancy has provided a clear vision and strategy for staff. Team working is strong, and staff feel continually encouraged to come up with ideas for improvement to help develop the business and further improve standards of client care. People have come up with ideas to move into new areas of work, marketing schemes to attract new business, developing new websites for the business, and helping introduce more efficient ways of working.
Ensuring staff are aware of the vision for the firm, and involving staff in thinking of continuous improvement encourages people to come up with ideas for improvement which are discussed and then adopted where possible, and this approach results in an enthusiastic staff who feel valued and appreciated and involved in the continued growth of the firm.
As an assessor, I look forward to my annual visits to the firm and seeing how the firm has grown and improved since my last visit.”
